Assaku Kindergarten is situated five kilometers from the city of Tallinn in Harjumaa county, Rae district.
The kindergarten has two separate houses, kindergarten staff consists of 13 general teachers, with an additional 2 music teachers and 2 physical education teachers, 2 speach therapists, special educatior and a further 56 assisting staff positions.
We have 20 classes with different names. Each class has between 14 – 21 children at ages 1, 5 to 7. Overall we have 450 children. Approximately
98% of the children are Estonian speaking and 2% are Russian speaking. We have a child with special needs (autism, ATH, allergies) in almost every
group.
The educational focus of Assaku Kindergarten is founded on the development of social skills, promoting physical and health education while furthering
the oral capabilities of the children. We use outdoors learning, project-based learning and anti-bullying methods in Assaku Kindergarten – learning
through play.
Outdoor learning plays a big role in the Assaku and Aruheina kindergarten curriculum. We use the kindergarten yard and neighborhood as a learning
environment.
In kindergartens we have places to make campfire, places for growing flowers and herbs. Also we have hens in Aruheina kindergarten, in summertime. Kids take care of hens, feed them and pick eggs from nests for food projects in groups.
Outdoor learning is a part of the learning process in our kindergarten as it stimulates the activity and enhances creativity, supports kids health.
In our kindergartens we have all possibilities to learn outdoors and by projects. We still have problems with sorting the garbage in groups with kids.
The strengths of Assaku Kindergarten in this project are as follows:
Knowledge of IT resources and utilization of robots (Bee-Bot, Blue-Bot, Ozobot) in the learning process.
Knowledge of integrating outdoor learning and using IT devices in all fields of the curriculum for a balanced learning process.
Knowledge of how to use outdoor learning as a learning method at early ages (1, 5 to 7)
Thus the primary value proposition of Assaku Kindergarten in this project is the knowledge and expertise in developing the IT skills in different ways
(outdoor learning, morning circles, learning projects) of children between a wide range of young age groups, from 1 up to 7 years of age.
