The only kindergarten in our city, which has special program for ecology and sustainable development, is kindergarten Mak. Teachers are educating children for environmental awareness and rational energy consumption and these habits remain as lifelong habits.

Kindergarten Mak is part of National eco schools and for its long quality work on this field it got golden charter.

Children are working in the small garden where they grow herbs and flowers, they are recycling new paper and they are making picture books and gift cards from this paper. Children are also doing natural compost and use it when planting and this compost is divided among parents. Children are also making things out of clay (eg. dishes, hearts, vase…) and kindergarten has its own clay oven. Also, kindergarten Mak is nurturing cultural heritage. It is built on the foundations of old city and Museum of Slavonia is part of our kindergarten. Children are teaching traditional games, dances and songs of our Slavonian region.

There are 8 groups in kindergarten Mak with around 180 children (age 1 to 6) and 16 preschool teachers are working with them.
